We have been branching out into the homes as well. Often get calls of someone who needs some spiritual uplifting. One problem we have encountered is volunteers. The retirement center is being handled by a local pastor who already has a church with two services on Sunday morning besides the center. I have talked to a few people with some promising outlooks.
We visit the nursing home on Sunday morning for our service and go back on Wednesday night for some kind of activity. If we can't get singers to come out we give them a devotion or something. Most churches in our area do not get real involved in nursing homes. I especially want to face this issue and maybe help them to see the need. It would be nice to see several churches involved in this ministry.
I am sort of the volunteer chaplain at the home, also in the local hospital when they need me to fill in. I have had the privilege of doing several funerals for some of those lovely people in these past 7 years and looks like some more will be in the future. Several times it has been a member of a church and the pastor never went to visit the person. Like I say, getting the churches involved is a major concern of mine.
